Hawaii Board of Education approves pay incentives to address teacher shortage

The Hawaii State Board of Education approved the Hawaii Department of Education's proposal to increase the salaries of classroom teachers in high-need areas using pay differentials, the DOE announced Thursday. The Board voted 7-2 in favor of the extra compensation to teachers in special education, Hawaiian language immersion programs and geographical areas that are difficult to staff.
