Tempe debt-relief firm to pay fine, $20M to customers

Freedom Debt Relief LLC will pay its customers $20 million in restitution for work it didn't do for people yet charged them, according to a settlement it made with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. An additional $5 million fine was assessed as part of the settlement, which alleged the company and its co-founder and CEO Andrew Housser charged consumers without settling their debts, according to the CFPB.
