Garfield, the chubby cartoon and comic-strip cat, is joining the same house that owns SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora The Explorer and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Viacom Inc. has agreed to acquire Paws Inc., the entity that holds all global intellectual-property rights to the “Garfield” character, which was first created by cartoonist Jim Davis more than 40 years ago.
